Plenary lecture at Household Finance coference of SIFR
 

Michael Haliassos gave a plenary talk at the Household Finance conference of the Stockholm Institute for Financial Research on August 17, 2011. He joined three distinguished speakers: John Campbell (Harvard University), Brigitte Madrian (Harvard University), and Robert Merton (MIT). Haliassos' topic was: Household Finance, Financial Innovation, and Economic Crisis.

 
Appointment to National Council on Research and Technology, Greece
 

Prof. Michael Haliassos, Ph.D., is one of eleven researchers appointed to the Greek National Council on Research and Technology. The Council advises the Greek government on how to redesign the way in which research is conducted and funded in Greece. Members come from MIT, NASA, Brown, LSE, Ecole Normale Superieure, National Institutes of Health and National Cancer Institute (USA), etc. Haliassos is the economist on the Council.

 
CFS Conference on Household Finance: Athens, Greece, September 23-24, 2010
 

Prof. Michael Haliassos, Ph.D., together with Luigi Guiso (EUI, CEPR, CFS), Prof. Gikas Hardouvelis (University of Pireaus and CEPR), and Prof. Tullio Jappelli (CSEF, CEPR, and CFS) are organizing a conference on Household Finance in Athens, Greece. CFS
 

Prof. Michael Haliassos, Ph.D., has been appointed Director of the Center for Financial Studies (CFS). He and Professor Dr. Uwe Walz join Professor Dr. Jan Krahnen in forming a new Directorate for CFS, with the purpose to promote further its national and international visibility and to boost its contribution to research and to advanced graduate teaching in the School of Economics and Business.

 
 
CEPR
 

Prof. Michael Haliassos, Ph.D., has been appointed research fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in the Financial Economics program. CEPR runs a European network of researchers and is administratively located in London. CEPR was founded to enhance the quality of economic policy-making within Europe and beyond, by creating excellent, policy-relevant economic research, and disseminating it widely to policy influencers in the public and private sectors and civil society. The finance of CEPR research stems for example from central banks, foundations, the European Commission, the ESRC, government agencies, and firms, mainly from the financial sector.

 
 
Eurozone Survey on Household Finances and Consumption has now been launched!
  The Governing Council of the ECB has now accepted the proposal of the Network on Household Finances and Consumption according to which National Central Banks will collect internationally comparable data on household wealth, assets, and debts in all Eurozone countries. The project proposal and survey questionnaire took two years to develop. Michael Haliassos, together with Luigi Guiso (EUI) and Arthur Kennickell (Federal Reserve Board) served as advisors to the network.
 
 
ECB-CFS Conference on Household Finances and Consumption, Sept. 4-5, 2008
  Michael Haliassos co-organized with Luigi Guiso (EUI), Peter Mooslechner (Austrian National Bank), and Lucrezia Reichlin (ECB) a conference on Household Finances and Consumption. The conference was co-sponsored by the ECB and the CFS Program on Household Wealth Management and was held at the new campus of the University in Westend (Casino building). Details can be found here. Master's of Science in Money and Finance
  Michael Haliassos is the Program Director of the new Master's program in Money and Finance, to be launched in October 2008. The web site of this innovative program under the newly built House of Finance is to be found here.
 
Lecture Series: Science and Society
  In Summer Semester 2008, Michael Haliassos organized the Goethe University-Deutsche Bank series of distinguished lectures on Science and Society. The topic for this session was "Inequality and Justice". The poster for the series is to be found here.

 

EUI-CFS Conference
 

Michael Haliassos (together with Nur Ata and Alena Bicakova of the European University Institute Program on Finance and Consumption) has organized a conference on Behavioral Approaches to Consumption, Credit, and Asset Allocation. The conference was held in Florence on May 25-26, 2007.

First Frankfurt-Mannheim Macroeconomics Workshop
  Almuth Scholl, together with Alexander Ludwig of MEA, are organizing the first Frankfurt-Mannheim Macro Workshop on March 23, 2007. The workshop is intended to provide opportunities for presentation of ongoing research by young researchers.

 

Conference of the ECB-CFS Research Network on "Financial System Modernisation and Economic Growth in Europe", Berlin, 28-29 September 2006
  Michael Haliassos was Conference Organizer on behalf of CFS for the above conference intended to bring together distinguished academics with high-level practitioners. The ECB was represented by Dr. Philipp Hartmann (Head, Financial Research Division), and the Bundesbank (host of the conference) by Dr. Heinz Herrmann (Head of Economic Research). Keynote speakers included Philippe Aghion (Harvard University), and Axel Weber (President, Deutsche Bundesbank). More information is available at http://www.eu-financial-system.org.

 

6th RTN Conference on the Economics of Ageing, May 12-14, 2005
