Lebenslauf

Prof. Dr. Hartmut Nickel-Waninger (geboren 1954) studierte Betriebswirtschaftslehre an der J. W. Goethe-Universität Frankfurt und promovierte am Seminar für Versicherungslehre mit dem Schwerpunkt Versicherungsmarketing.

Seit 1986 ist er in verschiedenen Ebenen der Versicherungsindustrie sowie diversen Versicherungsverbänden aktiv. Von 2006 bis 2016 gehörte er dem Vorstand des Gothaer Konzerns an und war zuständig für das Ressort Vertrieb und Marketing.

Prof. Nickel-Waninger lehrt seit 1986 an der J.W. Goethe-Universität Frankfurt und seit 2011 am International Center for Insurance Regulation (ICIR).

Lebenslauf

Prof. Dr. Christian Thimann (geboren 1966) wurde im Dezember 2020 zum Honorarprofessor an der Universität Frankfurt ernannt, nachdem er hier und an der Paris School of Economics über die letzten 15 Jahren hinweg unterrichtet hatte. Er studierte Volkswirtschaftslehre an der Universität Bonn, machte einen Master in Economics an der London School of Economics und promovierte an der Universität München.

Seine berufliche Laufbahn begann er beim Internationalen Währungsfonds in Washington. Im Jahr 1998 wechselte er zur Europäischen Zentralbank, wo er zunächst Abteilungsleiter wurde, mit Schwerpunkt auf internationalen Wirtschafts- und Währungsfragen. Zu Beginn der globalen Finanzkrise im Oktober 2008 machte der EZB-Präsident Jean-Claude Trichet ihn zu seinem Berater, eine Funktion, die er auch unter EZB-Präsident Mario Draghi bis Ende 2013 beibehielt.

Anfang 2014 wechselte er in die Versicherungswirtschaft und wurde Mitglied des erweiterten Vorstands der AXA-Gruppe in Paris, mit Zuständigkeiten für Strategie und Fragen der Politik. Seit Mitte 2018 ist er Vorsitzender der Geschäftsführung der Athora-Gruppe in Deutschland, einer auf die effiziente und renditestarke Verwaltung der Lebensversicherung spezialisierte Gesellschaft.

Prof. Dr. Christian Thimann hat zahlreiche Beiträge zu Themen der Geldpolitik, internationalen Makroökonomik und dem Versicherungswesen in wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften publiziert und ist seit 2005 in der universitären Lehre engagiert.

Prof. emeritus Karel Van Hulle

 

Curriculum Vitae
Prof. Karel Van Hulle is a lawyer by training and was Head of Unit at the European Commission (Directorate-General “Internal Market and Services”), which he joined in 1984 after having served eight years with the Belgian Banking Commission, where one of his main tasks consisted in taking care of the Secretariat of the newly created Belgian Accounting Standards Committee.

At the European Commission, he was subsequently Head of Unit for Accounting Standards, Head of Unit for Financial Reporting and Company Law and Head of Unit for Accounting and Auditing. In that capacity he was closely involved with harmonisation in the fields of accounting, auditing, and company law both at EU level and internationally and served as the Commission's observer with the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC), with the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB), with the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) and with CESRfin. He was Secretary of the High Level Group of Experts on Company Law which prepared the Commission’s 2003 Action Plan on Company Law.

From November 2004 until February 2013 he was Head of the Insurance and Pensions Unit. In this function, his main responsibility was the preparation of a new solvency regime for insurance and reinsurance companies (Solvency II). Other areas of responsibility included life assurance, non-life insurance, reinsurance, motor insurance, insurance guarantee schemes and pension funds. Karel represented the European Commission within the Committee of European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Supervisors (CEIOPS) and is a member of the Technical Committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS).

Prof. Van Hulle is part-time lecturer at the KU Leuven since 1982 where he first taught accounting law at the Law Faculty and now teaches solvency for financial institutions in the Economics Faculty.
