André Gröger was awarded the Sturm & Drang-Prize

The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration has awarded the Sturm & Drang Prize for the best publication by a young researcher to André Gröger for his publication "Internal Labor Migration as a Shock Coping Strategy: Evidence from a Typhoon" (joint with Yanos Zylberberg). The paper shows, based on an analysis of the economic consequences of a typhoon in Vietnam, that labor migration is an important strategy for households to provide against aggregated economic shocks, such as wars, natural disasters or economic and financial crises.

The publication, that is forthcoming in the renowned American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, convinced the jury of Prof. Michael Kosfeld, Prof. Nicola Fuchs-Schündeln and Prof. Jan Pieter Krahnen because of the innovative investigation of an economically and socially important topic based on a natural experiment and a meticulous analysis of panel data. The Sturm & Drang Prize was handed over on November 13th at the Dies Academicus 2015.
