Baptiste Massenot about the 7th CESifo Conference on Macroeconomics and Survey Data
Written by | Jun.-Prof. Baptiste Massenot, Ph.D.
Name of the conference | 7th CESifo Conference on Macroeconomics and Survey Data
Venue | Munich | |
Date | 2-3 December 2016 | |
Paper presented | Can Firms See into the Future? Survey Evidence from Germany |
Key Message of my paper
Firms whose business improves become too optimistic about their future business. Overoptimistic firms also have lower profits and do not learn to form better expectations.
What I noticed
- There is an increasing reliance on micro data to study macro topics.
- There was only one female presenter.
This paper has surprised me
“Inflation at the household level”, by Greg Kaplan, shows that different households face different inflation rates.
I plan to take a closer look at this paper
“Explaining Consumption Excess Sensitivity with Near-Rationality: Evidence from Large Predetermined Payment”, because it suggests that consumption responses to income changes are not fully rational.
Das war das Top-Thema zwischen den Sessions
Research and Brexit.
Das habe ich für meine Forschung mitgenommen
Survey data is trending in macro and I will try to keep using them in future research projects.
