Main Research - Real Estate Finance (Prof. Dr. Raimond Maurer)

Unlike investment in stocks and derivative financial instruments investment in real estate did not get much attention on the part of science. The most important reason for this shadowy existence might have been the fact that realty investments are difficult to record quantitavely by using the methods of modern portfolio theory. A fundamental impediment to such analyses is the lack of a representative index for most European markets.

The object of the research project is to inaugurate a theoretical basis for the construction of a benchmark for real estate markets. On this basis, these theoretical concepts should be converted empirically with the help of information open to the public concerning the German as well as other European real estate market. Furthermore, applications of the developed indexes in the fields of judging performances and planning portfolios are to be tested.
