Continuous Improvement: Faculty earns AACSB re-accreditation

Now it is official: The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Goethe University has once again received accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). This is the third time since 2005 that the Faculty has achieved the coveted "AACSB accredited" quality seal, which recognizes its excellent standing in the German and international higher education landscape.
During the four-day peer-review visit in October 2020, which was conducted virtually due to the ongoing pandemic, the three deans of other AACSB accredited business schools spoke with numerous Faculty representatives, students, graduates and stakeholders from business and society. The inspection focused on areas such as the Faculty's strategic orientation in research and teaching, internationalization, responsibility and sustainability. The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on teaching and research activities were also examined in detail.

In their summary, the peer-reviewers expressed their appreciation of the Faculty’s performance over the past five years. In keeping with its overarching values – "Engagement, Innovation, Impact" – the AACSB acknowledged the Faculty's importance for Frankfurt, Hessen and Germany, not only in the fields of finance and monetary policy, but also in other areas such as marketing and computer science. Furthermore, the peer-reviewers commended that several Faculty members are engaged in research on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, the Faculty's rigorous quality management, in particular its "Assurance of Learning" concept, was deemed exemplary.

Prof. Dr. Christian Schlag, Dean of the Faculty, is delighted with the renewed accreditation: "This clear vote by the peer-reviewers and confirmation from the AACSB send a clear signal that we are among the leading universities in Germany." The Dean thanks all those people who contributed to the glowing assessment and the successful, unconditional re-accreditation through their meticulous advance preparation and tireless efforts during the inspection.

The AACSB is an international non-profit organization that aims to establish globally binding quality standards in business education. Accredited universities demonstrate that they meet these stringent quality standards, for example in the recruitment of professors and the selection of teaching staff. In addition, universities provide evidence of up-to-date and relevant teaching content and methods and that students genuinely meet specific competence levels. To date, eleven higher education institutions across Germany have received the coveted AACSB accreditation.
