Nicola Fuchs-Schündeln appointed to the Franco-German Council of Economic Experts

Economist from Goethe University is involved in economic policy advisory at newly founded council

Nicola Fuchs-Schündeln was appointed to the new Franco-German Council of Economic Experts. The economist from Frankfurt will be involved in the counseling of Franco-German policy in the future.

Fuchs-Schündeln is a professor of Macroeconomics and Development at Goethe University in Frankfurt and a principal investigator at the LOEWE-Center “Sustainable Architecture for Finance and Europe” (SAFE). The Franco-German Council of Economic Experts was launched at the 50th Franco-German Economic and Financial Council at the end of September in Paris. The new council consists of five French and five German economic experts.

German members are, besides Fuchs-Schündeln, Christoph M. Schmidt, the chair of the German Council of Economic Experts and the president of the economic research center RWI Essen, Isabel Schnabel, Economics professor in Bonn as well as the presidents of economic research centers DIW and ifo, Marcel Fratzscher and Clemens Fuest. The French side is represented by, amongst others, the current chairman of the French Conseil d’analyse économique (CAE), Philippe Martin. Further members are Katheline Schubert and Agnès Bénassy-Quéré (both Paris School of Economics), Christian Gollier (Toulouse School of Economics) and Xavier Ragot (French Economic Observatory, Science Po Paris).

Leibniz Prize in 2017

Nicola Fuchs-Schündeln has been working at Goethe University since 2009. In addition to SAFE, she is participating as a Principal Investigator in the Cluster of Excellence “Formation of Normative Orders”. In 2017, she received the renowned Leibniz Prize and in 2018 a research prize of the European Research Council. She is chairwoman of the German Economic Association (Verein für Socialpolitik), the association of German-speaking economists, and a member of the scientific advisory board of the Federal Ministry of Finance. Furthermore, she is a member of editorial boards of several journals, amongst others Review of Economic Studies. During her research stays abroad, she taught at Stanford University and the University of New South Wales. She received her Ph.D. from Yale University. Before joining Goethe University she has been teaching at Harvard University. In cologne, she studied Latin American Studies and Economics.
