Thomas Laubach becomes Fed’s top advisor

Thomas Laubach, who was a professor at Goethe University and at the House of Finance between 2008 and 2012, has been appointed new head of the monetary affairs division of the US Federal Reserve (Fed). The German economist will be in charge of preparing the monetary policy debates and thus becomes a close advisor to the Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen.

Laubach has worked as a Senior Advisor for the Fed since 2012. Before he was a professor in Frankfurt, Laubach had already been working for the Fed for eight years. In 1997, he earned a Ph.D. from Princeton University where the former Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke was his thesis supervisor.
