Intercultural Skills for Japan

In „Intercultural Competencies for Japan”, students will have an opportunity to participate in a course, which will provide them with additional competence skills.

The program consists of 2 courses. The Introduction course is aimed towards beginners with no previous knowledges of Japanese. After completing the whole program, Level A1 in speaking Japanese should be attained.

Priority is given to students of Economics and Business Administration. Should there be places available a week before the course begins, students of other faculties are welcome to register for the course. 

PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
No prior knowledge is required for this module.

COURSE CONTENT
The following key topics will be covered in this course:

  • Japanese conversation: the most important phrases used in everyday life as well as business life in Japan.
  • Japanese script: the total 92 phonetic syllabary of Hiragana and Katakana as well as a few Kanji.
  • An introduction to the geography, history and institutions of Japan.

Presentation: one presentation (10 minutes) on any given topic of Japan's geography, culture and institutions.

PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the content of the Intercultural Competencies Japan 1 (WKSJ1) module is an essential requirement to take this course.

COURSE CONTENT
This is the follow-up course to the previous winter semester's course (WKSJ1).
We will continue to work with the Klett coursebook "Japanisch, bitte! Neu" and all the chapters from chapter 5 onwards will be covered.
In this semester, all the Hiragana and Katakana as well as a few Kanji will be learned.

At the end of the semester, all the students who studied Japanese should have a command of the language corresponding to level A1. This means that you should be able to hold a basic conversation in Japanese. Topics on Japan's geography, history and institutions will be explored further so that the students will not only be able to get to know the language but also the culture and the country.

Presentation: two presentations (10 minutes each) on any given topic of Japan's geography, culture and institutions.

This course does not take place in winter semester 2019/20. 

REGISTRATION
Participation is only by online registration. The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 20.

FEES
80 euros per course.
(13 teaching units each of 90 minutes' duration including written exam)

CERTIFICATE
A certificate entitled: "Intercultural Competencies in Japan for students of Economics & Business" will be issued upon successful completion of the course. For successful completion of the course, regular attendance and a pass in the final exam are required.
