Application

If you want to enroll as an international exchange student at the Faculty of Economics and Business, you have to be part of an exchange program between the Faculty and your home university. The Faculty does not accept free movers. In addition, you have to be nominated by your home institution, which needs to be completed by May 15 for the winter semester and by November 15 for the summer semester.

  • Please apply at the central Global Office of Goethe University after being nominated by your home university. Information and access to the online application procedure can be found here.

Application deadlines
May 1st -  June 15th for the winter semester
November 1st - December 15th for the summer semester.

Language Requirements
At the Faculty course programs and courses are offered in German or English.
We recommend good language skills in English or German according to the Common European Framework for Languages. A proof of language competence is not mandatory.

Visa and Registration
Registration at the Residence Registration Office
All international exchange students have to register at the Residence Registration Office (“Einwohnermeldeamt”) within a week after their arrival in Germany (Make an appointment here).

Foreigners' Registration Office
Non EU citizens have to register at the Foreigners' Registration Office ("Ausländerbehörde) in addition (Make an appointment here).

Visa
Whether you need a visa for entry to Germany or not, depends on your nationality. As a rule, most non-EU foreigners are required to obtain a visa for stays of more than three months or stays leading to gainful employment. Exemptions apply to EU nationals and EEA nationals from Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway as well as to Swiss nationals.
Please contact the German diplomatic representation in your home country (i.e. embassy, consulate) as early as possible (at least two months in advance of your departure) to find out if you need a visa for your studies in Germany. You can also find information on the website of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
