Abstract: Mixes, first discussed in 1981, conceal who communicates with whom in telecommunication networks. This paper presents the MixDemonstrator which is a software application for teaching the functionality of a mix network, and discusses how to use it for teaching and learning communication security. This demonstrator simulates and animates a network, mixes, participants and attackers. In a playful manner, the functionality and special features of mixes and their infrastructure can be taught and studied. The MixDemonstrator is useful for private learning, lectures and teleteaching sessions.
