Prof. Matthias Breuer, Ph.D.

Matthias Breuer is Heisenberg-Professor for Corporate Reporting & Regulation at Goethe University Frankfurt.  In his research, he examines issues of corporate transparency and information verification, with a particular focus on the role of regulation in addressing corporate information and sustainability issues.  His work has been published in the Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, and Review of Financial Studies.

Matthias is principal investigator of the DFG-funded “Corporate Reporting & Regulation” project (Heisenberg Programme) and a research fellow of the TRR 266 - Accounting for Transparency.  He was a fellow of the Centre for Advanced Studies on the Foundations of Law and Finance and an affiliate fellow of Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.

Before joining Goethe University, Matthias was Associate Professor of Business at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business and Visiting Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.  He holds a PhD from the University of Chicago, a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a bachelor’s degree from WHU.
