PhD Program
Our PhD Program in Accounting and Sustainability Reporting offers rigorous, research-driven training for outstanding candidates aiming to pursue academic careers at leading universities worldwide. The program combines structured doctoral coursework—delivered through the Graduate School of Economics, Finance, and Management (GSEFM) within the Rhein-Main Universities (RMU) alliance—with close mentorship and early immersion in independent research. From the outset, students develop strong methodological and theoretical foundations and work on original research projects in a highly interactive, feedback-intensive environment.
We are a young, ambitious, and highly collaborative department with a strong commitment to excellence. Our culture emphasizes intellectual curiosity, initiative, and open exchange—where ideas matter more than hierarchy. Through close partnerships with leading institutions such as Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and the 5U network (including the University of Mannheim, University of Cologne, and WHU), our PhD students are embedded in a vibrant and well-connected research ecosystem.
Our program offers a truly international and outward-looking research environment. Through initiatives such as TRR 266 “Accounting for Transparency,” the REAP network (with partners including Oxford, IESE, and Zurich), and the DART program, students engage directly with leading scholars and institutions worldwide. Regular research seminars, conference participation, and international research visits ensure continuous exposure to frontier research and global academic networks.
Our graduates are highly competitive on the international academic job market. They have been placed at leading universities around the world and have also pursued successful careers in industry, policy, and other high-impact practice environments.
