Data Funding
High-quality research data is indispensable, as it forms the basis for sound decision-making and substantiated analysis. It enables users to understand economic phenomena, test models and prepare forecasts.
Through access to transparent and well-structured data, researchers can validate economic interrelationships, cross-check hypotheses and create a reliable foundation for political and corporate decisions.
Current Data Funders
The following institutions and individuals have given us their special support. Thanks to their contributions, we can procure and maintain data and make it available for research purposes.
Friedrich Flick Foundation
Dr. Friedrich Flick established the Friedrich Flick Foundation in 1963 to fulfill the family’s philanthropic objectives and its responsibility to support the broader population. Active above all in Germany and Austria, the foundation applies itself to supporting science – especially economics, technology and research – and to promoting talented individuals. Beyond that, institutions and initiatives in education and social welfare, as well as arts and culture, can also receive funding.
House of Finance Foundation
The House of Finance Foundation was established in 2011 to provide additional financing for the activities undertaken by the House of Finance in research, continuing education and knowledge transfer. As a foundation without legal capacity, it is managed by the “pro universitate” foundation. Since 2019/2020, the Advisory Board has been able to grant funding of around €1.5 million from the foundation’s income to support House of Finance activities. Donors to the House of Finance Foundation are bound by the Code of Conduct of Goethe University Frankfurt regarding donations from private third parties.
Wilhelm Merton Foundation
The Wilhelm Merton Foundation was established as a tax- and legally dependent endowment fund in 1982 (to mark the 100th anniversary of Metallgesellschaft AG). Responsible for its administration is the “pro universitate” foundation. The purpose of the endowment fund is to use its income to support the Faculty of Economics and Business at Goethe University Frankfurt.
Dr. h. c. Uwe Zimpelmann is an alumnus of Goethe University Frankfurt, holds a business degree, is a chartered accountant and tax consultant, and served for many years as spokesman for the management board of a public-sector bank. Through his personal commitment, he supports projects that contribute to the advancement of science or make an impact on society.
The Dr. Mihael Foit and Elfriede Stich-Foit Foundation actively promotes science and research as well as the next generation of researchers. It especially supports projects in economics and medicine, as well as contributing to the advancement of research and education through awards, scholarships and targeted funding measures.
The Frankfurter Wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Gesellschaft (fwwg) has around 1,100 members from business and science and is the international alumni network of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Goethe University Frankfurt. It connects graduates across generations and offers its members valuable networking and career opportunities through professional exchange and close contacts to business practice. At the same time, the fwwg provides the faculty with both material and non-material support, in this way enhancing teaching and research as well as promoting the next generation of academics in the long term. This noticeably benefits Goethe University Frankfurt as a whole, as well as the City of Frankfurt as an important hub for science and business.
Wolfgang König is Emeritus Professor of Business Administration, in particular Business Informatics and Information Management, at Goethe University Frankfurt. He formerly served as Executive Director of the House of Finance, which is affiliated with the university, and as Chairman of the Board of the E-Finance Lab, an interdisciplinary financial research institute. In 2005, Professor König gifted the Wolfgang König Endowment Fund to the “pro universitate” foundation. The purpose is to use the fund’s income to help the foundation achieve its philanthropic goals for Goethe University Frankfurt. Supporting business informatics and, beyond that, business administration in general especially fulfills the fund’s purpose.
