New professorship „Empirical Innovation Research with Focus on China”

Prof. Dr. Philipp Böing

Since February 2024, Philipp Boeing is Professor for Empirical Innovation Research with Focus on China at the Department of Economic Policy and Quantitative Methods. He received his doctorate from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, was Assistant Professor at Peking University and is Senior Researcher at the ZEW - Leibniz Center for European Economic Research in Mannheim.

His research focuses on innovation incentives and the impact of innovation on firm performance. He is particularly interested in policy evaluation, patent indicators, productivity and import competition. Combined with an empirical focus on China and its global rise, he pursues a critical understanding of data-generating processes and institutions in China. He has advised the World Bank, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the German Expert Commission on Research and Innovation, among others.
