In order to use Faculty-specific services (e.g. log in a FB02-PC, VPN, Mail-ITS,), you will need another account, for which your secretary's office must fill out this form and send it to us. A workstation will be made available to you by your chair.

We would like to inform you that new user accounts for the departmental computers can only be applied for with HRZ employee accounts (no S-number). 8. I have a private device, is it supported?

The ITSec does not support any equipment that is not the property of the Goethe University, has an expired warranty, has not been purchased through ITSec or without the permission of ITSec. 11. I would like to install a program

For most installations you need administrator rights, which you as a user usually do not have. Therefore, please contact your chair administrator or send us an e-mail.

In the e-mail please tell us the name of your computer and the program name. In addition, please have serial numbers, license keys or similar at hand. If you want to install private storage services (such as Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc.), please fill out, sign and send us this Form (german version). Please find an english version here.

Additionally, the HRZ offers here all software (e.g. the Office Package) which you can install yourself as long as you are working or studying at the university.

  12. My faulty/old device must be disposed of
ITSEC is not responsible for the disposal of your EDP Equipment. You must submit a request for de-inventory. Due to data protection reasons, please contact us to remove the hard drive before disposing of the computer or Laptop. Please let us know as well when you dispose a printer.

The original disposal form must be sent to Asset Accounting (Anlagenbuchhaltung) by mail and in this form you must specify the equipment to dispose of  with its inventory number and/or serial number. The "Inventarnummer" is located on the device and is either a number beginning with 81-... (old equipment) or a longer 16-digit number (sticker has a blue border and white inner field with barcode).

You can download the disposal form here. Please also add this attachment if several devices are to be disposed of. Please remember that the head of the chair/department is assigned to the department and must sign the application. Further information can be found here.

  13. I want to install Office on my private device
Students and employees have the option of installing Office 365 on their private devices as part of the Microsoft Campus Agreement. Please visit this page (in german) for more information and to download the instructions.

  14. Can I buy EDP equipment from the Goethe-University?
No. Inventoried EDP devices (e.g PCs, notebooks, tablets, monitors, printers, scanners and smartphones) are generally not sold or transferred to private individuals, in particular due to the high requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and for the resulting wage tax when a monetary advantage is granted. Only for the continuation of research projects at another university or college can the previous user take the corresponding devices with him/her. You can find more information here.

  15. I want to connect a network-printer to my PC/Laptop
First of all, your secretary must request an authorization for you by email, if it was not already requested with the application for your account (FAQ 1). After the authorization, the network  printer will automatically be displayed on your PC after a restart. The network printer must be set up manually for laptops. A VPN connection must be set up in advance (FAQ 4). Here you will find the instructions (in german) for the manual setup. USB printers must be connected manually and driver can probably be needed.

  16. I want to sign my emails/renew my email certificate. What do I need to do?
For E-mail security purposes the Goethe University offers a personal digital email certificate.
In order to apply/renew the certificate, an identity check is required, which is performed with our colleagues at the HRZ (see following instructions in german).
Once you have been informed that your certificate can be downloaded, we will be very happy to help you setting it up in the web browser and Outlook.

  17. My Mailbox is full, what can I do?
You can reduce the size of your mailbox by deleting all unnecessary items from it and emptying the Deleted Items folder.
You can also archive your emails. This will remove E-mails from the server and create a local copy of your archived e-mails, but you will have to set it up manually on your device(s).
